Jets signed C Josh Myers, formerly of the Packers, to a one-year, $3.5 million contract.
Myers was a four-year starter with the Packers and, as ESPN’s Jeremy Fowler notes, was Justin Fields’ teammate at Ohio State. The signing appears to be a depth-move at first glance though. Current Jets C Joe Tippmann is just two years into his NFL career and earned PFWA All-Rookie Team honors in 2023. Jets RG Alijah Vera-Tucker and LG John Simpson are both under contract through the 2025 season as well.

Jets selected Oregon State Wisconsin C Joe Tippmann with the No. 43 overall pick in the 2023 NFL Draft.
Tippmann (6'6/303) was a 4-star recruit, and the 25th-ranked offensive tackle in the 2019 recruiting class, according to 247 Sports. Coming from the lineman factory in Madison, Tippmann is the next in a long line of seasoned starters accustomed to smash mouth football. At 6'6”, Tippmann towers over most centers. This may be a positive when discussing the run game but hinders some of the traits needed from centers in the pass game. In order to play the pivot correctly, a center must be able to transition between assignments efficiently and with correct timing. While his long legs can help with that, it also means that he can become unbalanced due to his lack of leg bend. His large mass is often pressed against defenders to maintain seals and create lanes. Yet, despite these shortcomings, Tippmann has only allowed one sack in just over two full years of starting duty. With increased mobility, Tippmann could be similar to another tall center in Luke Fortner.

Wisconsin sophomore C Joe Tippmann (eye) is unlikely to play in Saturday’s game vs. Michigan.
Tippmann (6'6/320) was essentially a late scratch, as he was poked in the eye during pregame warmups. While the sophomore center hasn’t been completely ruled out for Saturday’s game against the Wolverines, it has been reported that he isn’t expected to play. Tippmann having to sit would be really bad news for a Wisconsin offense that has struggled to get going.

Four-star 2019 T prospect Joe Tippmann has verbally committed to play at Wisconsin.
Tippmann is the second high-profile tackle from the ’19 class to commit to the school in the last 30 days, as they secured a commitment from five-star tackle Logan Brown in mid-November. Tippmann reportedly had offers already from Indiana, Purdue, Iowa nd Northwestern, and was also considering Notre Dame.
