Jaguars signed Texas S Josh Thompson.
Thompson (5'11/194) was a staple in the Longhorns’ secondary, making 19 straight starts over his final two seasons. His testing numbers bumped his draft stock, especially with a 10'7" vertical leap and 4.4 40-yard time at 194 pounds. He has a big body for an NFL cornerback, but it seems to put him at a disadvantage. While his backpedal helps him move and contend against the vertical routes, more crafty receivers will have no problem creating separation. Thompson lacks balance and quickly loses track of his assignment on a hitch or makes a double move, though he does have the strength to be an efficient tackler. He can shadow and get to the ball in zone coverage. A move to safety could be in Thompson’s best interest if he wants to stick at the NFL level.

Texas redshirt junior DB Josh Thompson (hamstring) was able to participate in Monday’s practice.
Thompson (6'0/191) was sidelined due to a hamstring issue, but he’s back in the fold now. The redshirt junior started all ten games for the Longhorns last season, accounting for 28 total tackles (19 solo, three for loss), three pass breakups, two quarterback hurries and one interception. Thompson will once again be a key figure in the secondary for the Longhorns, who are looking to make a major splash in Steve Sarkisian’s first season at the helm.

Brian Davis of the Austin American-Statesman reports that redshirt junior DB Josh Thompson has headed to the locker room with an undisclosed injury.
As far as anyone can tell, Thompson suffered a “cut” that needed to be addressed by the medical staff. The severity of the injury is unknown, though it does appear Thompson’s night is over. The good news is, ending his night early could just be a precaution, seeing as the Longhorns are on their way to a blowout. Expect updates on Thompson’s injury in the coming days.

Texas junior CB Josh Thompson will redshirt after missing most of this season with a foot injury.
Thompson (6'0/200) suffered a broken fifth metatarsal in his foot during the Longhorns’ September 21 win over Oklahoma State, and he has not appeared in a game since. With the junior having already appeared in four games, he would not be able to preserve the season of eligibility if he were to appear in another game. Thompson has accounted for 12 total tackles (1.5 for loss) in 2019.

Texas junior CB Josh Thompson is expected to miss 8-10 weeks after undergoing surgery to repair a broken fifth metatarsal in his foot.
Thompson (6'0/200) suffered the injury during the fourth quarter of Texas’ win over Oklahoma State on Saturday. The Longhorns lost two defensive backs during the game, as Jalen Green is expected to miss four weeks after suffering a dislocated shoulder during the second quarter. Add in the injuries to Caden Sterns, B.J. Foster and DeMarvion Overshown, and the Longhorns find themselves dealing with some serious depth issues in the secondary. Texas returns to action October 5 vs. West Virginia.

Texas junior CB Josh Thompson is likely to get an opportunity at kick returner this fall, according to Wescott Eberts of Burnt Orange Nation.
Texas hasn’t been much of a threat on special teams during Tom Herman’s tenure as head coach, and one of the goals in fall camp is to change that. Enter Thompson (6'0/200), who’s one of the fastest players on the team and has the potential to be a big-play threat on special teams. That being said the junior has yet to return a kick at the college level, so there’s some work to be done during fall camp if he’s to be a contributor as a kick returner.

Texas sophomore CB Josh Thompson (ankle) has been ruled out for Saturday’s game against Iowa State.
Thompson (6'0/200) sprained his ankle in Saturday’s win over Texas Tech. There is no immediate timetable for his recovery, but his final chance to play in the regular season post-Saturday would come against Kansas, on Nov. 23.

Texas sophomore CB Josh Thompson suffered an ankle sprain in Saturday’s game against Texas Tech.
Thompson sprained his ankle, and he never returned. Coach Herman announced his injury after the game, but there was not a set timetable. Ankle sprains have varying degrees of course, so Thompson could be cleared to play next week’s game against Iowa State or he could be out until the bowl game. Thompson wasn’t the only corner to leave either. Senior cornerback Davante Davis also has an injured ankle as well as knee pain.

Updating a previous item, Texas freshman CB Josh Thompson underwent arthroscopic knee surgery on Wednesday.
Thompson (6'0/200) tweeted out earlier on Wednesday that he had undergone a successful surgery, but at the time, the exact nature of the procedure was not known. Texas has since released an update specifying that it was an arthroscopic knee surgery. The Longhorns expect him to be ready for spring practice barring setback. A four-star recruit in the 2017 class, Thompson registered 13 tackles and a pass defended this season.
