Rams signed K Joshua Karty to their practice squad.
The move comes just three days after the team waived the veteran kicker. He had been a healthy inactive for three straight games prior to his release, but it appears the team wants to keep him close as they continue their march to the postseason. Harrison Mevis is expected to continue on as the starter, at least for the time being, after going a perfect 17-for-17 on PATs and 2-for-2 on field goal attempts in his four games with the team.

    Rams waived K Joshua Karty.
Harrison Mevis, aka “The Thiccer Kicker,” has won the in-season kicking battle over Karty. Karty has been a healthy scratch by the Rams for three straight weeks after going 10-for-15 on field goal attempts and 23-for-26 on his extra point attempts. In those three games, Mevis has made both of his field goal tries and is a perfect 13-for-13 on PATs. Karty is a sixth-round pick from the 2024 draft class and fared much better in his rookie season, going 29-for-34 on his field goal tries which included six made field goals from 50-plus yards. There are enough kicker-needy teams in the league that suggest Karty should land on a practice squad soon, but his time with the Rams is over.
  • LA Kicker #16
Rams declared K Joshua Karty, WR Xavier Smith, RB Jarquez Hunter, S Chris Smith II, OL David Quessenberry, and DE Desjuan Johnson inactive for Week 12 against the Buccaneers.
Karty is inactive for the second consecutive week, with the team electing to go with Harrison Mevis as their kicker. Smith (concussion) was unable to practice this week and will miss his first game of the year.

Rams declared K Joshua Karty, QB Stetson Bennett IV, RB Jarquez Hunter, OL Beaux Limmer, OL D.J. Humphries, and DE Desjuan Johnson inactive for Week 11 against the Seahawks.
Karty will be a healthy scratch for a second straight week, with Harrison Mevis, the so-called Thiccer Kicker, starting for the Rams. Mevis is a decent fantasy option in what could be a high-scoring affair. Davante Adams, dealing with an oblique injury, will play against Seattle after practicing in full on Friday.
  • LA Kicker #92
Rams coach Sean McVay said Harrison Mevis will again be the team’s kicker in Week 11 against Seattle.
Mevis, the “Thiccer Kicker,” did not attempt a field goal against the 49ers, settling for six made extra points. Seattle will probably force some more attempts this week against the Rams.
  • LA Kicker #16
Rams coach Sean McVay said Harrison Mevis will kick for the Rams in Week 10 against the 49ers.
He also said Joshua Karty’s roster spot is “not going anywhere” for whatever that’s worth. It sounds like Karty will be a healthy scratch for Week 10 while they try to work with him to get his confidence back. Mevis is worth a pickup in fantasy leagues with the Rams expected to pile up points on San Francisco’s banged-up defense.
  • LA Kicker #45
Rams signed K Harrison Mevis, formerly of the Jets, to their practice squad.
The former Birmingham Stallions kicker will provide some competition for Joshua Karty. Karty has struggled mightily this year, connecting on just 10-of-15 field goals and 23-of-26 PATs. Two of his field goal misses came on Sunday against the Saints. Mevis could take the job from Karty as soon as Week 10 against the 49ers.
  • LA Cornerback #14
Rams CB Cobie Durant (toe) did not participate in Wednesday’s practice.
Durant suffered an apparent toe injury in the Rams’ Week 1 loss to the Lions, but played with a decreased workload for Week 2. He starts out the week not practicing, adding to the Rams’ injury woes. With Durant’s Week 3 also in jeopardy, the 49ers offense will have a plus matchup against a weakened Rams secondary. K Joshua Karty (groin) and TE Davis Allen (back) also did not participate, all sitting out practice with WR Cooper Kupp (ankle). The Athletic’s Jourdan Rodrigue mentions CB Ahkello Witherspoon as an elevation candidate heading into Week 3.
  • LA Kicker (FG)
Rams selected Stanford K Joshua Karty with the No. 209 overall pick in the 2024 NFL Draft.
Karty (6’2/207) saw his first action as a sophomore in 2021. He struggled on field goal tries, making just 10-of-15 attempts. Karty refined his game in the offseason and put his best work on tape as a junior, connecting on all 18 of his field goal tries. He also missed just one of his 25 PATs. Karty wasn’t perfect in 2023 but still went 23-of-27 on field goals with a perfect record on PATs. Karty’s year-to-year consistency is less than ideal, but his true talent is almost certainly represented by what he did in his final two seasons. He has the leg to easily make kicks from 50 yards out and will have a high touchback rate on kickoffs in the pros. Kicking for a high-powered Rams offense, Karty will be a fantasy-relevant leg as a rookie.
