Starting center Justin Hartwig was held out of practice for the second day in a row.
He is questionable for Sunday’s game. It would be more bad news for the Titans offense.
  • The Titans are negotiating a long-term contract with center Justin Hartwig.
Tennessee has a good habit of keeping their offensive linemen in town for long careers. Hartwig hopes to get Pro Bowl consideration this season, but the Titans need to start winning games.

Panthers signed second-round C Ryan Kalil to a four-year contract.
Kalil was a bit of a surprise pick, as Carolina already had solid depth at the pivot position, but was the best player available and is a fine fit for the zone-blocking scheme new coordinator Jeff Davidson will incorporate. Kalil will compete with Justin Hartwig and Geoff Hangartner to start as a rookie.
  • Panthers placed C Justin Hartwig on injured reserve, ending his season.
Rookie Ryan Kalil will get his first NFL start at center this week. Hartwig had a better second season in Carolina and will probably be back next year.
  • In addition to DeShaun Foster, Panthers DT Kris Jenkins and C Justin Hartwig would reportedly be available in a trade.
Jenkins is annually on the block, but the Panthers will have to be blown away to deal him. Hartwig’s salaries aren’t too bad, but he’s been extremely injury prone since signing from Tennessee in 2006.
  • Panthers starting C Justin Hartwig has a broken right thumb and could be out of the starting lineup for Week 10.
The injury will effect Hartwig’s ability to snap the ball. Ryan Kalil would get the start at center.
  • Panthers C Justin Hartwig left Saturday’s game with a right leg injury.
Hartwig had his leg rolled over on a play that was actually blown dead due to a false start. Ryan Kalil slid over and took over at center with Geoff Hangartner taking over at guard.
