It sounded like he’ll be ready for training camp, but no official word. It’s possible that Jeff Blake could force his way past Detmer on the depth chart if the injury lingers.

Jeff Blake is backing up Donovan McNabb.

Detmer’s competition comes from former Hawaii star Timmy Chang and Vince Young’s college backup Matt Nordgren, an undrafted free agent.

He may have passed Garcia for the No. 2 quarterback role.

Detmer has been on the shelf for most of training camp,while No. 3 QB Jeff Blake has looked solid in preseason. But Eagles coaches say the job is not up for grabs.

That’s two horrible games in a row for the Eagles. Jeff Blake played the second half in place of Detmer.

The Eagles backups played well in 2002 when Donovan McNabb was injured, but they were awful tonight against a poor defense. Look for Donovan McNabb play more next week.

Detmer started the fourth quarter after McNabb threw five touchdowns. He connected on all nine of his passes before No. 3 QB Mike McMahon played the final drive.

Detmer was signed days ago as insurance behind Kelly Holcomb (neck) and Tarvaris Jackson (concussion). His release indicates that one of the two will at least be able to back up Brooks Bollinger in Week 10, if not start.

The Vikings are looking for depth in case Tarvaris Jackson (concussion) and Kelly Holcomb (neck) are unable to play in Week 10. Detmer is familar with the Vikings offense, having played under Vikings head coach Brad Childress when both were with the Eagles. He beat out veteran Chris Weinke, who also worked out for the team on Tuesday.
