49ers waived WR Maurice Price, TE Joe Jon Finley, OLB Jay Moore, OT Joe Toledo, ILB Mark Washington, and LB Justin Roland.
Moore had the best shot to make the team in this group, but he’s shown little pass-rush ability and battled injuries since being drafted in the 2007 fourth round. Finley, Roland, and Toledo could go on the practice squad.
  • LAC Linebacker
Cardinals signed ILBs Ali Highsmith and Mark Washington, WRs Onrea Jones and Ed Gant, CB Rashad Barksdale, DE Ryan Kees, OL Jonathan Palmer, and OT Tom Pestock to reserve/future contracts.
Highsmith spent time on the active roster in 2008 and 2009, seeing action as a special teamer. The Cards are currently very thin at inside ‘backer, so the former LSU Tiger figures to be directly in the mix for a job in 2010.
  • MIN Linebacker
49ers signed LB Mark Washington, formerly of the Dolphins.
A college nose tackle, Washington will compete for time at inside linebacker. He probably won’t be any higher than the practice squad in 2009, though.
  • MIN Linebacker
    Cardinals waived/injured LB Mark Washington.
Matt Leinart is still on the team, though so is fifth-string RB Alfonso Smith. The Cardinals’ coaching staff thinks highly of Washington, so he may be kept on I.R. all year after clearing waivers. His injury was undisclosed.
  • MIN Linebacker
Vikings waived/injured LB Mark Washington and signed LB David Herron Jr.
Washington’s injury wasn’t disclosed, but he was running with the third-team defense. Herron has a history with the Vikings and can play special teams. He could make injured Heath Farwell’s nearly $2 million salary expendable.
