Lombardi

Lombardi was swept away with the Josh McDaniels sands in Las Vegas and worked as a senior offensive assistant for the 49ers last season. He’ll replace Brian Griese as the 49ers elevate Lombardi in-house. Lombardi spent four years as an assistant with the 49ers from 2013-2016 before setting out on his own with the Jets, and, later, riding the McDaniels train from New England to the Raiders. This is only the second time he’s had an unquestioned position coach role — he was New England’s wideouts coach in 2020 and 2021.

Bo Hardegree takes over as the team’s new OC. Lombardi, the former receivers coach with the Patriots who had longtime connections to now-dispatched Raiders head coach Josh McDaniels, couldn’t get through his second season in Vegas. Under Lombardi and McDaniels, the Raiders were 30th in points per game and 31st in yards per game. They had the NFL’s sixth lowest EPA per play through Week 8. Still just 34 years old, Lombardi is likely to catch on with another team in a reduced capacity next season.

New head coach Josh McDaniels worked with Lombardi for three seasons in New England, so the two should hit the ground running in Las Vegas. Lombardi is a first time offensive coordinator, which makes sense given that he is just 33 years old. Lombardi has somehow been coaching in the NFL for nine seasons, and spent the last two seasons as the Patriots’ wide receivers coach. He previously served as the Patriots’ assistant quarterbacks coach and has also had stints with the 49ers and Jets. The Raiders also hired Patriots’ offensive line coach Carmen Bricillo as their offensive line coach.
