Green was making a case for the starting strong safety job before going down with the dreaded Lisfranc foot injury in a preseason game. He’s under contract for 2007 and could become a factor again if he’s healthy and Ken Hamlin leaves via free agency.

He was replaced by Todd Johnson and rookie Chris Harris. Asked about being pulled from the game, Green said, ''I really don’t have any idea.’'

''I feel like I am a starter and can start just about anywhere in this league,’' Green said. ''I don’t feel like I am a guy who should be on the bench, and if [a trade] option comes, let it be.’'

Chris Harris will start Sunday’s home opener against Detroit. Green committed a huge pass interference penalty in week one’s loss to Washington.

Bad news for Michael Boulware. Mike Green and Brian Russell are likely the top candidates to man center field. Grant hasn’t been much of a playmaker since his Panther days, but looks like the best IDP in Seattle’s secondary.

He’s ahead of Mike Green, who’s been working once-a-day at Seahawks camp as he comes back from a Lisfranc injury. Russell was never much of a playmaker in Cleveland but should be better than Ken Hamlin in coverage.
