Packers safeties coach Darren Perry has not yet been contacted about the defensive coordinator vacancies in Arizona or Philadelphia.
The Eagles were said to have “definite” interest in Perry, though CSN Philly is now reporting that he is not atop the team’s “wish list.” He’s been mentioned as a candidate for the Cardinals and even the Raiders as well. Teams are prohibited from talking to Perry directly until after the Super Bowl.

According to NFL Network’s Steve Wyche, Packers LBs coach Winston Moss is “pretty much certain” to be new Raiders GM Reggie McKenzie’s top choice as head coach.
Wyche’s colleague Jason LaCanfora agrees, suggesting there’s “heavy expectation” that Moss will take over in Oakland, bringing along secondary coach Darren Perry as defensive coordinator.

Although coach Mike McCarthy said that “everything top to bottom will be evaluated,” he’s “very confident” that Dom Capers is going to remain Packers defensive coordinator.
No decisions have been made on the defensive side of the ball, but McCarthy respects, trusts, and has “great faith” in Capers. “Let’s state the obvious. We gave up 579 yards of offense,” said McCarthy. "... But you don’t make knee-jerk decisions.”

The Packers are expected to hire former Miami interim head coach Jim Bates as their defensive coordinator.
They would move current coordinator Bob Slowik back to defensive backfield coach.

Packers chairman Bob Harlan says the organization is close to finalizing a long-term extension for general manager Ted Thompson.
Harlan says there’s a “strong chance” the deal could be done before new CEO Mark Murphy takes over on January 1. Thompson, who’s already signed through 2009, has done a terrific job of compiling quality depth via the draft.

Former 49ers coach Mike Nolan will formally interview for the Packers’ defensive coordinator opening on Thursday.
They might look to have Nolan sign a contract immediately. The Packers are thought to be sold on installing a 3-4 defense in 2009 and Nolan will bring that. However, he will need more pass-rushing linebackers to be successful.

Gregg Williams has reportedly made it a two-horse race with Mike Nolan to be the next Packers defensive coordinator.
It won’t be too hard for the Packers from here. If they want to stay in a 4-3, they’ll pick Williams. If they want a “hybrid” defense or a 3-4, Nolan will be the choice. Nolan would likely also be the cheaper coach to hire.

The Green Bay Press-Gazette confirms that Mike Nolan is the clear favorite to be the Packers’ next defensive coordinator.
One source gave Nolan a “90% chance” of landing the job and another said similar things on the Bowl circuit. The Packers haven’t formally interviewed Nolan, but coach Mike McCarthy knows him well and may not even need to.

The Packers interviewed Rams interim coach Jim Haslett for their vacancy at defensive coordinator Tuesday.
Haz is keeping his bases covered in case he doesn’t get the Rams’ full-time coaching job, which he probably won’t. The Saints are hot after Gregg Williams, the Packers’ top target, so Haslett would be a nice fallback option.

Packers hired Dom Capers as defensive coordinator.
He chose the Pack over the Giants. The Milwaukee Journal-Sentinel expects Capers to run a “hybrid” scheme, but he may ultimately lean towards a 3-4. The Packers have enough linebackers and space eaters up front for the three-man front, although it may take away from LE Aaron Kampman’s strengths. Green Bay will keep man-to-man coverage in the secondary.
