The Bears had four quarterbacks on the roster at the start of business on Thursday and they’ll have four quarterbacks on the roster when the day comes to an end, but it won’t be the same four quarterbacks.
On Thursday morning, the team announced that they’ve made a change at the back end of their depth chart. Matt Blanchard is out and Dalyn Williams is in.
Williams went undrafted this year after wrapping up four years at Dartmouth that saw him play in 39 games. Williams, who tried out for the Bears at their rookie minicamp, threw for 7,458 yards and 56 touchdowns and ran for 19 more touchdowns during his college career.
Blanchard spent time on the Bears practice squad in 2012, returned to the organization last year and remained on their practice squad with a raise after generating interest from another team. He’s out of practice squad elibility now, though, and Williams can go on that auxiliary roster if the Bears want to keep him around come the regular season.
