Bengals ditch 2009 fourth-rounder

On the same day that a potentially failing 2009 first-round draft pick has returned to action for the Bengals, another guy taken in that same draft got his walking papers.

The Bengals announced that center Jonathan Luigs, a fourth-rounder last year, has been waived.

Luigs appeared in eight games as a rookie, with no starts. He played in neither preseason game in 2010 due to a hip injury.

It’s possible that Luigs will revert to the team’s injured reserve list if he’s not claimed on waivers. An injury settlement also is a possibility.
