With about an hour and a half before the start of the free agent market, one of the top running backs has decided not to join it.
According to Roy Cummings of the Tampa Tribune, the Buccaneers have agreed to a deal to keep running back Doug Martin home. ESPN’s Adam Schefter put the deal at five years for $35 million.
The Bucs cost themselves some money by not using the fifth-year option on his rookie contract which was available to them, but they were at least able to hang onto now.
That gives some degree of stability to an offense that made some strides under quarterback Jameis Winston last year.
