Last year wide receiver Cecil Shorts signed a two-year, $6 million contract with the Texans. But while he’ll remain with the Texans for his second season in 2016, he won’t see the full $6 million.
Shorts has accepted a pay cut. He’ll now make a base salary of $1.2 million instead of the $2.75 million his contract originally called for him to make.
Shorts will also get a $500,000 roster bonus and can make as much as $250,000 in per-game bonuses if he’s active for all 16 games. If Shorts plays all 16 games he’ll end up having made about $5 million on that original two-year, $6 million contract.
Last year Shorts played in 11 games, starting four, and had 42 catches for 484 yards and two touchdowns.
On a team where DeAndre Hopkins is the clear-cut No. 1 receiver, Shorts will compete with first-round pick Will Fuller to be the No. 2 receiver.
