John Denney is the longest-tenured member of the Dolphins and it looks like the long snapper will be holding onto that title for a few more years.
Denney’s agent tweeted out a shot of Denney signing a contract extension with the Dolphins on Thursday that agent Ian Greengross said makes Denney the best-paid long snapper in the NFL. Armando Salguero of the Miami Herald reports that the three-year deal, which kicks in after the season, averages out at a little bit more than $1.15 million per season.
Denney signed with the Dolphins as an undrafted free agent out of BYU in 2005 and promptly won the snapping job. He has played in all 128 regular season games that the Dolphins have played since he joined the team and played well enough to earn two Pro Bowl selections as the AFC’s best long snapper.
If Denney were to continue his consecutive games streak through the life of the contract, he’d be at 192 games played as a Dolphin. That would rank him fourth in franchise history behind Dan Marino, Jason Taylor and Bob Kuchenberg.
