In his first season with the New York Giants in 2009, safety C.C. Brown was often criticized for lapses in coverage and was benched in November. But the Giants still think Brown can contribute.
Alex Marvez of Fox Sports reports that the Giants gave Brown a restricted free-agent tender offer of $1.226 million. The Giants won’t receive draft-pick compensation if Brown signs elsewhere and the Giants don’t match it.
Brown became a starter in Week Three of 2009 when the Giants lost safety Kenny Phillips to a knee injury. He was demoted after a bad game against the Eagles, but did play in all 16 games.
Brown has five years of experience and is one of the 200-plus players who are restricted free agents -- rather than unrestricted free agents -- as the NFL heads into an uncapped year. He played from 2005 to 2008 for the Houston Texans.
