Before the draft, there was talk that former Syracuse quarterback Ryan Nassib could go in the first round to a team where he’d be penciled in as the starter. Instead, he fell to the fourth round, to a team where he has no chance of being a starter.
The Giants traded up in the fourth round to take Ryan Nassib with pick No. 110. Obviously, Nassib has zero chance to start, barring an injury to Eli Manning.
But the Giants liked Nassib enough that they were willing to give up both their fourth-round pick and their sixth-round pick to get Nassib, who’s a good pocket passer and obviously a player whom Giants G.M. Jerry Reese and coach Tom Coughlin think can be a valuable asset.
There’s no way Nassib is better than Manning, but the Giants may think he’s better than David Carr, who is currently their No. 2 quarterback. If he is better than Carr, he will turn out to be a good value for the Giants -- even if they’re hoping they never need him.
