The Giants are slated to sign former Bucs receiver Michael Clayton on Tuesday, according to Adam Schefter of ESPN.
Florio first reported Clayton’s workout with the team on Monday night, and wondered about the possible $150,000 UFL transfer fee that would come with such a deal. Clayton played for the Omaha Nighthawks this year.
Ralph Vacciano of the New York Daily News reports the Giants won’t have to pay the fee because of an amendment in the UFL’s controversial transfer fee policy. The league reportedly changed the rule so that the fee isn’t applicable to players who spent less than four weeks on an active UFL roster.
Clayton joined the Nighthawks on October 25, and their season is over.
The former first-round pick of the Bucs struggles to get open, but he’s experienced enough to handle blocking chores. The Giants don’t appear to trust rookie Duke Calhoun.
