Greg Roman denies “buffoon” comment: I respect Rex Ryan

Despite reports that Greg Roman and Rex Ryan weren’t seeing eye to eye before Ryan fired Roman as the Bills’ offensive coordinator, Roman says he actually respects his former boss.

Roman told Alex Marvez of Sporting News that reports he called Ryan a “buffoon” and said other disparaging things about Ryan are “damnable lies.”

“I have nothing but respect for coach Ryan and I thought we had a great working relationship,” Roman said. “We met and he informed me of his decision. I thought it was handled very professionally. We then discussed how we could best make this work for everybody moving forward.”

Clearly, Roman and Ryan weren’t entirely on the same page: A head coach doesn’t fire his offensive coordinator two games into the season unless there are some problems beyond just the 0-2 start. But Roman wants it known that he was a loyal soldier. Even if some would say, given the results in Buffalo this season, that he’d be justified if he thinks Ryan is a buffoon.
