For the third time in the last two days, the Jets are signing a running back.
This time it’s Khiry Robinson, according to Albert Breer of NFL Network.
The 26-year-old Robinson has played the last three seasons for the Saints. Although he showed a lot of promise in 2014, his role diminished in 2015, when he became more of a third-down back and gained just 180 yards on 56 carries.
With the Jets, Robinson joins a backfield that also includes Matt Forte, a free agent signed yesterday, and Bilal Powell, who re-signed today. Last year’s starting running back, Chris Ivory, signed with the Jaguars, but the Jets have to like the three-man backfield they’ve signed over the last two days.
Now the Jets need to find a quarterback who can hand off to all those running backs. Unless they’re planning to run the wildcat as their base offense.
