Giants kicker Josh Brown was suspended one game by the NFL this week as a result of a domestic violence incident involving his ex-wife that the team knew about before re-signing Brown to a two-year contract earlier this year.
That signing came despite coach Ben McAdoo saying he wouldn’t tolerate domestic violence after he became the team’s head coach in January. When asked about the disparity between words and actions, McAdoo said the team will “treat these situations on a case-by-case basis” and suggested General Manager Jerry Reese was the man to ask about re-signing Brown.
Reese was asked on Saturday, but apparently isn’t the man to answer. Reese said “nope” when asked to comment on the Brown situation and team owner John Mara also dodged queries after the team’s 21-0 loss to the Bills.
“I know what you’re going to ask me about,’’ Mara said, via the New York Post. “Check with me again next week, but I don’t have anything to say about it. ... I don’t know [why next week], maybe I’ll change my mind, you know? OK?”
Tom Obarski is currently the other kicker on the Giants roster, although he may have hurt his chances of being the team’s kicker in Week One (or beyond should they rethink their desire to have Brown on the team) by missing a 28-yard field goal against Buffalo.
