Over the Bill Belichick years in New England, the Patriots have had several players join their team and become more productive than they were in a previous stop.

Chargers president John Spanos thinks one of this year’s pickups may fit the bill. It’s running back Donald Brown, who averaged 3.1 yards on 144 carries during two seasons in San Diego.

“He is such a perfect Patriots signing,” Spanos said, via CSNNewEngland.com. “I would bet anything he’s going to be a productive player for them.”

Spanos and the rest of the Chargers brass obviously didn’t think Brown was going to be any more productive for them than he was the last two years because they released him in March. The Chargers paid him $7 million before parting ways, much more than the $965,000 the Patriots will spend if Brown makes the team this season. The Patriots guaranteed him $300,000, which should buy a few chances to prove Spanos right in the preseason.
