Mike DeVito takes a pay cut to stay in Kansas City

DeVito

Chiefs defensive lineman Mike DeVito was a prime candidate to take a pay cut to stay put for another year. He has.

Per a league source, DeVito agreed to reduced his $3.75 million base salary and $250,000 workout bonus to a base salary of $870,000 (fully guaranteed) and a signing bonus of $300,000. He also has a $30,000 workout bonus, which gives him as a practical matter $1.2 million guaranteed.

DeVito can earn another $300,000 in per-game roster bonuses, for every game on which he’s a member of the 53-man roster. The deal also includes $1.2 million in incentives based on playing time and whether the team makes it to the playoffs.

The deal reduces his 2015 $5.4 million cap number to $2.9 million, creating (abacus engaged) $2.5 million in cap space.

DeVito suffered a torn Achilles tendon in Week One of the 2014 season.
