Ozzie Says He’ll Eventually Return To Alabama

Ozzie Newsome quietly has done a stellar job as General Manager of the Baltimore Ravens. Indeed, if he weren’t already in the Hall of Fame due to his playing career as a tight end with the Browns, he might be able to make a strong case for enshrinement as an executive.

Eventually, however, the 53-year-old Newsome is going to leave the NFL.

And he plans to return to the University of Alabama, where the foundation for his stellar pro career was laid.

We know this because Newsome talks from time to time about the eventual move. And, as pointed out by John Taylor at the soon-to-be CFT on NBC, Ozzie recently dropped a very strong hint.

At some point I’m coming back home,” Newsome said. “I’m coming home. And what I do when I get here I don’t know. But I am coming home.”

Sanctions recently imposed due to a textbook-selling scandal has triggered talk that current Alabama A.D. Mal Moore might not be long for the job.

If/when that happens, it could be the opening Newsome needs.
