J.J. Jansen has been the long snapper for the Panthers for the last seven seasons and the team has no designs on making a change at the position any time soon.
The team announced Wednesday that they have signed Jansen to a five-year contract. Jansen, who was originally acquired in a trade with the Packers in 2009, was set to become an unrestricted free agent next month.
“He’s consistent, and that’s the first thing you look for,” special teams coordinator Bruce DeHaven said in a statement from the team. “He’s earned this. He affects the entire special teams. He’s got some size, he’s very smart and he’s got a lot of leadership ability. I can’t say enough great things about him.”
Jansen has played in 112 straight regular season games for Carolina and went to the Pro Bowl after the 2013 season.
