Give the Jets all of the free agent defensive backs.
The Jets are putting the finishing touches on a four-year deal for Chargers strong safety Marcus Gilchrist, Ian Rapoport of NFL Media reported Thursday night. Per Rapoport, the contract will be signed Friday.
The 26-year-old Gilchrist has started all 16 games in the last two seasons for San Diego. Gilchrist, who was PFT’s No. 101-ranked free agent, is set to join Calvin Pryor, Antonio Allen and restricted free agent Jaiquawn Jarrett as options at safety for New York.
The signing of Gilchrist would be yet another addition to a Jets secondary that has received quite the makeover. The Jets have invested especially heavily at cornerback, bringing back Darrelle Revis and Antonio Cromartie for second tours and signing Buster Skrine from Cleveland.
