The Bills fired offensive coordinator Greg Roman on Friday, a day after they dropped to 0-2 with a 37-31 home loss to the Jets.
A report out of Buffalo had the firing coming after owners Terry and Kim Pegula met with Ryan on Friday morning to express their unhappiness with the offense, but Ryan said the decision to can Roman didn’t come from upstairs. During a meeting with the media on Friday afternoon, Ryan said “this is my move without question” and that he told the Pegulas his plans during their morning conversation.
“After every game I meet with ownership,” Ryan said, via WGR 550. “This morning I met with them. I informed them on my decision and they were supportive of it. ... We have a lot of weapons. It’s about how we disperse the ball, that’s going to be the focus. ... I thought it was the right time to make a move. There’s 14 games left in the season, and we have to make big strides moving forward.”
The offense isn’t the only area where the Bills have to make strides in the weeks to come and Ryan said there’s no doubt that the defense has to get better, “but to me this is the move that made the most sense.” He also called himself accountable for the decisions, something that could have implications on his future in Buffalo if those strides don’t come after parting ways with Roman.
