    Patriots waived WR Tre Nixon.
The No. 242 overall pick of the draft, Nixon will presumably be in the mix for a spot on the practice squad. In college, Nixon played with good 4.44 speed and had the ability to threaten a defense deep on any play. However, his ability to track the ball over his shoulder on deep routes ran hot and cold, and he struggled on contested catches.

Patriots selected UCF WR Tre Nixon with the No. 242 overall pick in the 2021 NFL Draft.
Nixon (6'1/187) could be one of many former Ole Miss WRs to go on and have success. Nixon started his career at Ole Miss, but was buried on the depth chart by a slew of NFLers, leading him to transfer to UCF after 2017 and spend the rest of his eligibility there. As expected of a UCF WR, Nixon plays with good 4.44 speed and has the ability to threaten a defense deep on any play. That said, Nixon’s ability to track the ball over his shoulder on deep routes runs hot and cold, and he is not one to win many contested catches. Nixon, who shows some shades of Titus Young, will need to get better about playing the ball to last as a deep threat in the NFL. He battled a shoulder issue in 2020, which brought him down boards a bit.
