Delmonico

That’s the High-A East affiliate of the White Sox, for whom Delmonico logged 574 major league plate appearances between 2017-2020. The 29-year-old signed a minor league contract with the Reds last winter but was released from the roster at Triple-A Louisville in late May after batting just .221/.312/.382 in 19 games.

Delmonico failed to make the Reds out of spring training and was hitting just .221/.312/.382 with two homers through 19 games with Triple-A Louisville. Best known for his time with the White Sox, the 28-year-old will attempt to latch on elsewhere.

Delmonico did everything in his power to earn a reserve spot on the Opening Day bench, slashing .292/.357/.458 with no homers and seven RBI in 17 Cactus League games. He should get an opportunity with the big league club at some point during the 2021.

Delmonico made just 22 plate appearances with the White Sox during the abbreviated 2020 season and finished with a .150 batting average and .377 OPS. The 28-year-old flashed good power in the early part of his career, but he’ll probably be nothing more than organizational depth for Cincinnati leading into 2021.

Delmonico cleared waivers after being designated for assignment over the weekend. The 28-year-old enjoyed some initial success in the majors back in 2017, but he holds a .633 OPS in 115 games since. He’ll stick around as outfield depth in the organization.

The move clears a spot on the 40-man roster for Jarrod Dyson. Delmonico has a career .696 OPS over parts of four seasons.

Delmonico was sent out to make room for Saturday’s starter Reynaldo Lopez. The 28-year-old has three hits in 15 at-bats for the big club this year.

Delmonico got optioned out on August 6 after batting just .150 with a .377 OPS over his first 22 plate appearances. He figures to mostly operate as a reserve player for Chicago in his return.
