Rays manager Kevin Cash told reporters Saturday that Oliver Drake (elbow) and Chaz Roe (shoulder) threw off a mound for the first time on Saturday morning.
Cash also added that both relievers are still “a ways away” before any potential return. Drake has been out since last postseason due to a right flexor strain, while Roe has been sidelined since early April due to a right shoulder strain. Barring any setbacks, they should be able to return to the Rays’ bullpen at some point this summer.

There’s no word yet on the financial framework. Drake was removed from the Rays’ ALDS roster back in October due to a flexor tendon strain and is not expected to be ready for the start of the 2021 season.

Drake cleared waivers after being designated for assignment by the Rays and has decided to test out free agency rather than accept an outright assignment. He suffered a flexor strain earlier this month and it’s not clear how far along he is with his recovery.
