One night after countrymen Alison and Bruno Schmidt took gold in beach volleyball, Brazil’s indoor volleyball team will have the chance to do the same.

In front of a sold-out crowd at the Maracanãzinho Brazil sealed its spot in the gold medal match with a straight set victory over Russia, winning 25-21, 25-20, 25-17. Wallace (13 kills) and Ricardo Lucarelli (ten kills) both reached double figures in kills, and setter Bruno Mossa did a good job of setting up his teammates throughout the match as Brazil moves one step closer to their first Olympic gold medal in men’s indoor volleyball since 2004.

Brazil’s opponent in the gold medal match will be Italy, which came back to defeat the U.S. in five sets in the first semifinal of the day.

The U.S. will meet Russia in the bronze medal match, after meeting in pool play in London four years ago. Russia won that match in five sets, coming back after dropping each of the first two sets. Russia has won a men’s volleyball medal in each of the last four Summer Olympics going into the bronze medal match, while the U.S. missed out on the medal stand in London after taking gold in Beijing in 2008.
