Kacy Catanzaro put her gymnastics background to good use, becoming the first woman to complete an “American Ninja Warrior” city course in Dallas and to qualify for the Las Vegas finals, as aired on NBC on Monday.
The 5-foot former Towson University gymnast started doing gymnastics at age 5, through her college career two years ago. She was named NCAA Southeast Regional Gymnast of the Year in 2012.
This is her second year on “American Ninja Warrior” after watching the show while in college. Upon graduating, she researched the show some more and sent in a tryout video, according to Towson’s athletics website.
“Competing in gymnastics and getting some of those kinds of pre-competition nerves and butterflies definitely gives me an advantage,” she said in an “American Ninja Warrior” interview published in May. “I’ve done gymnastics for my whole life, so I kind of know how to calm those down and control them.”
