WATCH LIVE: World Hockey Championship quarterfinals -- 9 a.m. ET

Every hockey power is in action in the World Hockey Championship quarterfinals in the Czech Republic, among four matchups on NBC Sports Live Extra on Thursday.

The U.S., with one Olympian on its roster (defenseman Justin Faulk), plays Switzerland in the first quarterfinal (9 a.m. ET).

The U.S. topped its preliminary group with six wins in seven games, while Switzerland won two of seven in the other group. The Swiss, silver medalists at 2013 Worlds, are without stalwart goalie Jonas Hiller of the Calgary Flames.

The U.S. has won three Worlds medals since 1962, all bronze.

Two-time reigning Olympic champion Canada gets Belarus in the second quarterfinal (10 a.m. ET).

Canada, captained by Sidney Crosby, won all seven of its group games by a combined 35-goal margin. Belarus, which beat the U.S. in group play, has never won an Olympic or Worlds medal.

The third quarterfinal features Olympic silver medalist Sweden and defending World champion Russia (1 p.m. ET).

The Swedes lost one game in group play, to Canada. Russia lost twice, to the U.S. and Finland.

The Sweden-Russia winner plays the U.S.-Switzerland winner in Saturday’s semifinals.

Two-time reigning Olympic bronze medalist Finland gets host Czech Republic in the last quarterfinal (2 p.m. ET).

The Finland-Czech Republic winner plays the Canada-Belarus winner in the other Saturday semifinal.
