Looking for their second consecutive Olympic gold medal in men’s soccer, Mexico announced Sunday night that it is now looking for a replacement for the team captain.

Forward Oribe Peralta, who scored in Mexico’s group stage opener against Germany and played all 90 minutes in the team’s 5-1 win over Fiji Sunday, has been ruled out for the remainder of the tournament due to a broken nose. The Mexican National Team announced the news, stating that a replacement for Peralta will be announced as soon as possible.

Peralta is returning to his club team, Club America in Mexico, to undergo surgery to repair a broken bone in his nose. Fellow forwards Hirving Lozano and Marco Bueno have started both of Mexico’s matches thus far, and the team also has Carlos Cisneros and Erick Torres available. In their win over Fiji midfielder Erick Gutierrez scored four goals, helping Mexico erase a stunning 1-0 halftime deficit.

Mexico concludes group play Wednesday against South Korea, with the two teams tied atop Group C on four points. Germany plays Fiji in the other Group C match, with the top two teams advancing into the knockout stage.
