A possible New York City-Lake Placid Olympic and Paralympic bid will be explored by a committee over about the next year, New York Gov. Kathy Hochul announced Monday.
“The time is now to return the Olympic flame back to New York,” Hochul said in a press release, referencing the 1980 Lake Placid Games. “Milano Cortina showcased the immense possibility that comes with a dual city Olympic Games. It’s clear we have a once-in-a-generation opportunity to build on Lake Placid’s Olympic legacy, New York City’s global platform, and the strengths that make our State unique.”
The next two Winter Olympics will be in the French Alps in 2030 and in Utah in 2034. The IOC has been in talks with a Swiss bid for the 2038 Games, so it’s possible the earliest available Games will be 2042.
