Three-time U.S. Olympian Reid Priddy suffered a season-ending knee injury during an FIVB World League match in Bulgaria on Saturday night.
His right knee buckled on a landing from a kill attempt. Priddy fell to the court and writhed, causing a mid-point play stoppage.
“Regretfully, the 2014 season was cut short for me due to the awkward landing I made in Bulgaria on Saturday night,” Priddy said in a press release. “I will be having surgery next week on my knee and immediately begin aggressive rehab to get back to top shape and condition.”
Priddy, 36, has been one of the cornerstones of USA Volleyball for the last decade. He and Clay Stanley were the only men to make three consecutive Olympic Teams from 2004 through 2012, including the gold medal-winning team in 2008.
“The goal is still the same, going for gold in Rio,” Priddy said. “I will do everything in my power to recover fully and get back on the court.”
