Husband, wife look to qualify for U.S. Olympic team in different sports (video)

Sweden World Triathlon

In 2016, Ben and Sarah True can become what is believed to be the first husband and wife to compete for the U.S. in different sports at the same Summer Olympics.

Ben, a 5000m and 10,000m runner, and Sarah, a triathlete, who live in Hanover, N.H., got married Oct. 18, 2014. Other U.S. Olympians in different sports married after their Olympic careers ended.

Sarah already qualified for the U.S. Olympic team, and her story of finishing fourth in London, trying to beat a countrywoman and being supported by Ben is documented here.

Ben, slowed by Lyme disease at the 2012 Olympic trials, will try to make his first Olympic team at the track trials in Eugene, Ore., from July 1-10.

On Aug. 20, the Olympic women’s triathlon will go off on the final full day of Rio competition at 10 a.m. ET. It will take about two hours. Later that night, the men’s 5000m final is scheduled on the track.
