Shaun White interview on ‘Last Call: Carson Daly’ (video)

Two-time Olympic halfpipe champion Shaun White has hit just about every Los Angeles media stop in promoting his Air & Style event this weekend.

On Thursday, White was on NBC’s “Last Call: Carson Daly” to discuss not only his Air & Style venture but also his lack of sports knowledge, the origin of his name and the Sochi Olympics, where he finished fourth.

White, 29, has said repeatedly since at least September 2014 that he plans to compete at the Pyeongchang 2018 Winter Games. He said the Beijing 2022 Winter Games are also possible, according to a New York Times story published Thursday.

White was the oldest U.S. Olympic men’s halfpipe snowboarder at the 2010 and 2014 Winter Olympics and, in 2018, would be older than any previous U.S. Olympic men’s halfpipe snowboarder. The sport debuted at the Olympics in 1998.

White has competed twice since Sochi, finishing fourth at the 2015 Winter X Games and winning the Dew Tour Mountain Championships on Dec. 12.

White said he was uninvited from the Winter X Games Aspen last month, he believes due to “constructive criticism” about the event made last fall. An X Games official said White was not uninvited, but rather not invited to begin with. Had White finished in the top three last year, he would have received an automatic invite. The X Games haven’t detailed why White was not invited.

White’s coach said before Aspen that White would compete at Winter X Games Oslo next week, but after deliberations White will not compete in Oslo, despite outright qualifying for the event, according to The New York Times.

In this 90-minute podcast recorded last week and published Thursday, White also discussed many topics, including turning down his own bobblehead and fragrance and why he admires tennis legends Andre Agassi and Bjorn Borg.
