Rebensburg earns her first victory of the season

Lindsey Vonn is on break and Tina Maze is on fire, but on Wednesday a different familiar face was on top of the giant slalom podium: Viktoria Rebensburg.

The Vancouver gold medalist in the discipline used a strong first run to put some distance between her and her competitors, then held them off on her second run, finishing with a total time of 2:28.94.

Despite being the two-time defending GS champ, Wednesday’s victory was the German’s first of the season. She has nine career World Cup wins.

Maze, who had won four straight giant slalom races, finished third in Sweden, but still increased her overall World Cup lead; she’s now outpacing the pack
by nearly two-to-one in points.
