Thanks to weather issues throughout the week it will be another busy day on Guanabara Bay, with races being run in the men’s Laser, men’s Finn and women’s 49erFX just name three events. Peter Burling and Blair Tuke of New Zealand grabbed the early lead in the men’s 49er competition, and they’ll look to build on that Saturday. And in the women’s 49erFX it was Canada’s Erin Rafuse and Dannie Boyd who got off to a good start to take first place through two races.
Medals in two men’s shooting events will be awarded Saturday, with the 25 meter rapid fire pistol and skeet shooting on the slate. Reigning rapid fire pistol gold medalist Leuris Pupo of Cuba is looking to win for the second straight Olympics, and in the skeet shooting competition American Vincent Hancock has won gold in each of the last two Olympics. Can he make it three in a row?
Lastly there’s the men’s individual trampoline competition, with American Logan Dooley part of the 16-man field. Dong Dong of China is aiming for a second consecutive Olympic gold medal, something accomplished by Canada’s Rosie MacLennan in the women’s competition Friday, but countryman Gao Lei arrived in Rio as the favorite to win gold.
