Cowboys receiver Patrick Crayton was released and signed to the team’s practice squad.
The seventh-rounder was inactive for the first three weeks of the season. The Cowboys signed tight end Brett Pierce off Baltimore’s practice squad to fill the roster spot.

Patrick Crayton could beat out Quincy Morgan for the third receiver role in Dallas.
It’s a battle to watch, because the winner could replace Terry Glenn as a starter when she gets hurt. Crayton has better hands than Morgan.
  • FA Wide Receiver
Patrick Crayton has moved ahead of Quincy Morgan in the battle to be the team’s third receiver.
Crayton is a former QB who had an impressive week 17 game last season. He doesn’t overwhelm you with measurables but has great hands. With Terry Glenn so injury prone, he’s worth a look in deep keeper leagues. He’s someone to watch.

Bill Parcells said after Saturday night’s game he didn’t think Cowboys WR Patrick Crayton’s injury was serious.
Crayton sprained his ankle and will probably be listed as day-to-day.

An MRI revealed no extensive damage to Patrick Crayton’s injured ankle.
Dallas’ third receiver may miss up a month, however, and is questionable for Week 1. He has a high ankle sprain.

The San Diego Union-Tribune considers Patrick Crayton (ankle) “doubtful” for Week 1 against the Vikings.
Crayton recently tried to practice, but couldn’t make it through just two weeks removed from ankle surgery. He had to shut it down late and will now aim for Week 2. Undrafted rookie Bryan Walters is expected to man the slot against Minnesota, but won’t command many targets. Antonio Gates might get a few more.

Patrick Crayton (ankle) participated in Chargers practice on Wednesday.
Crayton was held out of Week 1’s win over the Vikings, but is trending toward being active against the Patriots on Sunday. However, he’s unlikely to be at full health, and won’t be a strong fantasy play even with the Chargers taking on a New England pass defense that allowed 416 yards to Chad Henne on Monday.

Making his season debut, Patrick Crayton had five catches for 47 yards in Sunday’s win over the Chiefs.
Crayton racked up seven targets with Malcom Floyd (groin) limited. He worked the slot nicely, coming up with a huge 23-yard catch over the middle for a key first-down in the second half. But on most days, Crayton will be no better than fourth on the receiving totem pole in San Diego.

Patrick Crayton caught three passes for 37 yards with a touchdown in the Chargers’ Week 14 win over the Bills.
Crayton was the clear No. 4 option in the passing game, seeing just three targets all day. On his 26-yard touchdown catch, he faked like he was going out of bounds and then broke three tackles on his way to the house. That won’t happen against the Ravens next week.
