Gaines will miss his third straight game with a knee injury. The rest of Houston’s inactives are RB Duke Johnson
RB C.J. Prosise, QB Josh McCown, CB Phillip Gaines, and WR Isaiah Coulter.

Things are truly dire at corner now for the Texans, who will be trotting out Vernon Hargreaves and Keion Crossen as their top two vs. Mitch Trubisky. Gaines was questionable after a pair of limited practices, so he will hopefully be able to return for Week 15.

Gaines was limited to six appearances after an ankle injury sent him to IR in Week 7. He’ll return to compete for a role on the veteran minimum. 28-year-old Gaines has 24 starts across six seasons.

Gaines was carted off the field during the Texans’ Week 7 loss against the Colts. The Texans are already dealing with injuries to starting CBs Bradly Roby (hamstring) and Johnathan Joseph (shoulder). They traded for former-Raiders CB Gareon Conley to help address the position.

Gaines was ruled out immediately upon exiting. The Texans’ secondary is all kinds of banged up with starting CBs Bradley Roby (hamstring) and Johnathan Joseph (shoulder) sidelined.

Gaines was released by the Browns with an injury settlement a few days ago, but the Texans are desperate for cornerback talent right now. Gaines is nothing more than a flier who will try to replace Aaron Colvin.

Gaines landed on IR with a concussion during final cuts. It never had the looks of a season ender. Gaines should resurface after playing 408 snaps between the Browns and Buffalo last year.

Gaines played 408 snaps last season. If he can get healthy, he will be cut loose with an injury settlement.

Gaines latched on with Cleveland last year after being waived by Buffalo. He totaled 39 tackles over 408 defensive snaps between the two teams. He gives the Browns another depth piece behind starters Denzel Ward and T.J. Carrie.

Gaines hasn’t been active since Week 13 and with the Browns getting Denzel Ward back from a two-game absence this week as well as getting Terrance Mitchel back two weeks ago, Gaines is merely just depth to begin with when active.
