Lions signed QB R.J. Archer and waived WR Troy Burrell.
Archer projects as a mere camp arm behind Matthew Stafford and Shaun Hill. He’ll likely split third-string reps with Kellen Moore, who is squarely on the roster bubble. After starring locally at Wayne State, Burrell was added as an undrafted free agent.

    Lions waived QB R.J. Archer.
A camp arm out of William & Mary, Archer didn’t appear in either of the Lions’ preseason games. The Lions are going to give some extra reps to third-string rookie Kellen Moore over the next two weeks.

Seahawks signed QB R.J. Archer, DL Will Pericak, WR Kevin Smith, C Jared Wheeler, LB Brendan Kelly, LS Luke Ingram, and OG C.J. Davis to reserve/future contracts.
These are roster-filler signings for the offseason. Archer will turn 28 before the 2015 season and isn’t much of a prospect. He played his college ball at William & Mary before going undrafted in 2010.
  • FA Quarterback #6
Vikings promoted QB R.J. Archer from their practice squad.
An undrafted rookie out of William & Mary, Archer has not appeared in an NFL game of any sort, including the preseason. He’ll be No. 4 on the depth chart, behind injured Brett Favre, rookie Joe Webb, and Patrick Ramsey.

The Vikings coaching staff is reportedly considering signing practice squad QB R.J. Archer to the active roster, per Judd Zulgad of the Minneapolis Star-Tribune.
The team would need to deactivate someone to open up a roster spot, and Brett Favre is the first person that comes to mind. Archer would serve as the team’s third quarterback, so it looks as though Favre is too injured to even serve in an emergency capacity. Needless to say, it wouldn’t be surprising to see Favre head to injured reserve in the near future.
  • FA Quarterback #6
    Vikings waived QB R.J. Archer.
Archer was just promoted from the practice on Monday, but the Vikes opted to go with former Giant Rhett Bomar as the fourth quarterback instead.
  • FA Quarterback #6
    Vikings waived QB R.J. Archer.
Archer, a 6'2/220 prospect from William & Mary, was passed quickly by rookie Joe Webb at minicamps. Archer offers little long-term NFL appeal.
