ESPN’s Jeremy Fowler reports John Scangarello is “considered the front runner” for the Raiders QBs coach job.
Scangarello has bounced around the college and pro ranks since 2018, making five different stops over the last six seasons. His last NFL job came in 2021 as the 49ers’ offensive coordinator, and he served as the University of Kentucky’s offensive coordinator/quarterbacks coach in 2022. Scangarello was out of both ranks in 2023, but has reportedly already interviewed with the Raiders and could be in line for a deal at any time.
  • NBC Sports’ John Clark reports the Eagles won’t retain Senior offensive assistant Rich Scangarello.
Coach Doug Pederson called his own plays throughout the year but Scangarello was still brought on help “marry” Philadelphia’s run game with the team’s play under center — an experiment that clearly failed long-term. Marty Mornhinweg is also reportedly following DC Jim Schwartz out the door immediately. The Eagles’ overhaul around Pederson also includes wide receivers coach Aaron Moorehead, pass game analyst Andrew Breiner and defensive backs coach Marquand Manuel.

  • Eagles hired ex-Broncos OC Rich Scangarello as senior offensive assistant.
Doug Pederson is going without an offensive coordinator for 2020, but Scangarello could be the next best thing. An ex-Kyle Shanahan assistant, Scangarello has just one year of play-calling experience at the NFL level, but his firing from the Broncos did not seem particularly well deserved.
  • NFL Media’s Tom Pelissero reports former Broncos OC Rich Scangarello is expected to join the Eagles’ offensive staff.
The Eagles have an offensive coordinator opening, but it’s unclear what job he’s expected to take. In Denver, Scangarello showed some promise with below-average weapons but also got off script too easily in his first stint as an offensive coordinator, particularly with his situational play calling. Surrounding himself with other offensive minds would be a great way for him to fine-tune his craft.
  • Browns are interviewing former Broncos OC Rich Scangarello for their vacant offensive coordinator job.
Scangarello will meet with the Browns staff on Monday or Tuesday with Cleveland looking to finish off their coaching hires in the near future. In Denver, Scangarello had mixed results with a below-average offensive roster, but he was at least partially to blame. His second half and situational playcalling were chaotic at some points, which wasn’t a surprise for a newer play-caller. If hired in Cleveland, he’d work under an offensive-minded head coach in Kevin Stefanski and would have a lot more weapons to play with compared to the 2019 Broncos.
  • Broncos fired OC Rich Scangarello.
Scangarello’s reign as Broncos coordinator lasted just one year and three quarterbacks. A member of the Kyle Shanahan coaching tree, Scangarello oversaw one of the league’s lowest-scoring offenses, but it was hardly all his fault. The quarterback carousel was compounded by a run-first edict from coach Vic Fangio. Regardless, the Broncos’ offense was certainly no one’s idea of good. Whoever replaces Scangarello will inherit interesting building blocks in Drew Lock, Courtland Sutton and Noah Fant, as well as a competent backfield. Scangarello could reunite with Shanahan in San Francisco.
  • Broncos hired 49ers QBs coach Rich Scangarello as offensive coordinator.
Scangarello, 46, is a Kyle Shanahan disciple having worked with him in Atlanta and San Francisco following numerous jobs around the lower college ranks. He’s a relative unknown but is now being tasked with running the offense in Denver alongside new defensive-minded coach Vic Fangio. Scangarello will have OL coach Mike Munchak to lean on, and we expect this offense to be run-oriented based on both Munchak and Shanahan’s histories on hammering the run.
  • 49ers QBs coach Rich Scangarello will interview for the Broncos’ offensive coordinator vacancy on Monday.
ESPN’s Adam Schefter had reported that the Broncos were denied permission but evidently something changed. Primarily a coach at small colleges, Scangarello has never called plays or coordinated an offense at the NFL level.
  • The Broncos will interview 49ers QB coach Rich Scangarello for their offensive coordinator job.
Scangarello has been one of Kyle Shanahan’s top assistants the last few years. He has no coordinating experience at the NFL level but is a riser in the coaching ranks for his work with Nick Mullens and the 49ers’ quarerbacks. The Broncos need a playcaller to pair with defensive-minded HC Vic Fangio after losing Gary Kubiak.
  • ESPN’s Adam Schefter reports the Broncos were denied permission to interview 49ers QB coach Rich Scangarello for their offensive coordinator vacancy.
This isn’t a huge surprise given Scangarello’s strong ties to Kyle Shanahan. It’s another setback for the Broncos after parting ways with Gary Kubiak. Scangarello will spend at least another year under Shanahan but he’s a name to file away for next offseason.
