Browns selected Georgia S Richard LeCounte with the No. 169 overall pick in the 2021 NFL Draft.
LeCounte (5'10/196) is the kind of player who regularly puts himself in the right position, but does not always have the athletic ability to capitalize. A free safety with some flexibility to play elsewhere at times, LeCounte plays with a reliable sense for where the ball is going and maintains good leverage in coverage. When he can just sit back and play the quarterback’s eyes, LeCounte is a dangerous one. LeCounte ran a troublesome 4.78 40-yard dash, and that is no surprise given the speed he puts on film. LeCounte is a quintessential case of a player who “gets” football, but does not have the tools to play at a quality starting NFL level. He will play for a Cleveland secondary graded by PFF as the league’s tenth worst in 2020.
