Panthers re-signed exclusive rights free agents TE/FB Richie Brockel and CB R.J. Stanford.
Brockel will make $465,000 in 2012, while Stanford will pull down $540,000. An undrafted free agent, Brockel appeared in 11 games last season, catching three passes for 13 yards and a touchdown. He played primarily fullback. A two-year veteran, Stanford made 13 tackles in 12 games in 2011.
  • FA Tight End #84
Browns TEs Ben Watson (leg) and Jordan Cameron (groin) are both listed as questionable for Week 1 against the Eagles.
Both may be game-time decisions, although Watson seems likelier to play. It’s still a situation to avoid in fantasy football leagues. Brandon Weeden showed poorly in August, and Watson may be needed to help rookie RT Mitchell Schwartz block. Schwartz did not look NFL-ready in preseason pass protection.
  • FA Running Back #47
    Panthers re-signed FB/TE Richie Brockel to a one-year, $555,000 contract.
Brockel was an exclusive rights free agent. He played in all 16 games last season mainly as a special teams player.
  • FA Running Back #47
    Panthers re-signed FB/TE Richie Brockel to a two-year contract.
Brockel was a restricted free agent. The Panthers’ fullback last season, Brockel played 201 snaps. He’s not a particularly effective lead blocker.
  • FA Running Back #47
Panthers placed FB/TE Richie Brockel on injured reserve with a foot injury, ending his season.
Brockel had played just 36 snaps this season. A longtime Panthers reserve, Brockel is under contract for 2015. He’ll be 29 next season.
  • FA Tight End #83
Chargers waived TE Dedrick Epps, FB Richie Brockel, WR Richard Goodman, C/G Jeff Hansen, DE Derrick Jones, and FB Billy Latsko.
Epps was drafted in the seventh round after splitting tight end duties with Jimmy Graham at Miami last season. The Bolts with go with Randy McMichael and Kris Wilson behind Antonio Gates.
  • FA Defensive Back
Panthers signed CB Cletis Gordon, S De’Von Hall, and FB Richie Brockel to one-year contracts.
They’re all camp body types. Gordon is a big corner at 6-foot-1, 212, but almost strictly a special teamer. Brockel and Hall have played under Ron Rivera before, but none of the above will be likely to make the roster.
