Gale spent the entire 2021 campaign at Triple-A Louisville as organizational catching depth. The 33-year-old veteran backstop’s last appearance in the majors came with the Dodgers back in 2019.

Gale, 32, has seen spot duty in the majors in parts of four seasons. He’s merely a depth addition.

Gale began the 2019 campaign in the Dodgers’ system before getting dealt to the Rays on July 31 for cash considerations. The 31-year-old catcher stands 4-for-37 (.108) in parts of four seasons at the major league level.

Gale was outrighted off the Dodgers’ 40-man roster last week and will now function as minor league catching depth in a new organization. The 31-year-old is 4-for-37 (.108) lifetime in parts of four seasons at the MLB level.

This clears a 40-man roster spot for the Dodgers ahead of next week’s July 31 trade deadline. Gale has been serving as the third catcher on an OKC team that features top catching prospects Will Smith and Keibert Ruiz.

Reliever J.T. Chargois is also headed back to the farm. That leaves the Dodgers with a vacant roster spot, which will likely be filled ahead of Friday night’s series opener in Cincinnati. Gale hasn’t shown much in his brief time with the Dodgers this year, managing just two hits with seven strikeouts across 15 major-league at-bats (.133 AVG).

With Travis d’Arnaud on the move to Tampa Bay, the Dodgers are bringing back to serve as extra depth behind the plate. He’s hitting just .143 (2-for-14) with seven strikeouts during his limited action with the big league club this season.

Gale appeared in three games last year for the Dodgers, and didn’t pick up a hit in two at-bats. He’ll serve as the backup catcher to Austin Barnes with Russell Martin on the injured list with lower back inflammation.

Gale, 31, hit .222 (2-for-9) with three RBI in Cactus League play. Once again, he’ll provide additional catching depth for the Dodgers at Triple-A.
