NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport reports ex-Seahawks QB Tarvaris Jackson died in a car accident Sunday night at the age of 36.
Jackson was working as the QB coach for Tennessee State. He played nine years in the NFL from 2006-2015, most notable starting 20 games for the Vikings and 14 for the Seahawks. Jackson offered dual-threat ability that was uncommon during his time, ultimately finishing his career with a plenty-respectable 17-17 record.

The Vikings signed Bernard Berrian to a six-year, $42 million contract, with a $16 million signing bonus. He’ll get $23 million in the first three years.
Making it harder to sign Randy Moss. Berrian could be overmatched if expected to be a true “number one” receiver, but he adds production and talent to a woeful passing game. Tarvaris Jackson now has two burners in Berrian and Sidney Rice, with Bobby Wade still likely to be active underneath. Expect Berrian’s numbers to take a slight hit in Minnesota, where Jackson is still a major question mark.

The Raiders and Vikings are “discussing the availability” of Sage Rosenfels, according to Mike Lombardi of the National Football Post.
A third-stringer in Minnesota, Rosenfels would be a significant upgrade in Oakland over JaMarcus Russell and Bruce Gradkowski. According to Lombardi -- a former Raiders personnel man with close ties to Al Davis -- the Vikings will only trade Rosenfels if they are certain Brett Favre is coming back. Rosenfels could be a fallback plan if Oakland misses out on Donovan McNabb.

Vikings QB Tarvaris Jackson is making a run at Minnesota’s backup QB job.
One of the most exciting rookie quarterbacks because of his arm strength and athleticism, Jackson has showed better-than-expected poise in camp. He could challenge for a starting job in 2007 and is a fine dynasty league pickup.

Vikings QB Tarvaris Jackson is currently second on the depth chart.
The second-rounder’s impressive preseason performances have moved him past veteran Mike McMahon. Jackson is a fine dynasty league pick.
  • FA Quarterback
As Minnesota’s third quarterback Friday night, rookie Tarvaris Jackson completed 2-of-4 passes for 80 yards and a touchdown.
The athletic second-round pick hooked up with impressive undrafted rookie Jason Carter on a 77-yard score. Mike McMahon, who entered behind starter Brad Johnson, finished 2-of-5 passing for 36 yards.
  • FA Quarterback
Vikings rookie QB Tarvaris Jackson completed 9-of-11 passes Saturday night for 80 yards and a touchdown.
It was another solid showing from the young developmental prospect, who didn’t need his legs as much as he did in the exhibition opener. Mike McMahon completed one pass on seven attempts.

Seahawks coach Pete Carroll insisted Sunday night that he didn’t consider benching Tarvaris Jackson in Week 2.
Jackson has completed one pass for a gain longer than 17 yards on the season. He’s averaging 5.4 yards-per-attempt through two games. “It had nothing to do with the quarterback spot,” Carroll said of Seattle’s second straight loss. “I don’t feel like that at all. We’ll look at everything, but I don’t feel like that at all.” They must really not like Charlie Whitehurst.
  • FA Quarterback
Tarvaris Jackson completed 18-of-31 passes for 171 yards, no touchdowns, and an interception in the Seahawks’ Week 3 win over Arizona.
He also ran four times for 20 yards and a score. “Charlie” cheers could be heard from Seahawks fans at CenturyLink Field, calling for Charlie Whitehurst to replace Jackson at quarterback. T-Jack averaged 5.5 yards per attempt against very arguably the worst pass defense in football, which might be the most telling stat. He is an inaccurate passer and lacks poise. Leave Jackson on waivers as the Seahawks host Atlanta in Week 4.
  • FA Quarterback
Tarvaris Jackson left Sunday’s game against the Giants in the third quarter with a right shoulder injury.
Jackson is questionable to return, but it doesn’t look good as he was in serious pain following an 11-yard scramble. Trainers were looking under his pads at his throwing shoulder and then took him to the locker room. Charlie Whitehurst has come on. Jackson was 15-of-22 for 166 yards with one touchdown and one interception before leaving.
