Cowboys declined WR Terrance Williams’ option year for 2019.
He’ll hit free agency on March 13. Williams, 29, appeared in just two 2018 games due to a foot fracture and three-game suspension for violating the NFL’s substance abuse policy. A better blocking than pass-catching receiver, Williams is unlikely to command more than cheap, one-year offers on the open market. Parting ways with Williams saves the Cowboys $2.25 million in cap room.

NFL suspended Cowboys WR Terrance Williams three games for violating the league’s substance-abuse policy.
The suspension is related to Williams’ May arrest for public intoxication and leaving the scene of an accident. It comes at a fortuitous time, as he is currently on injured reserve with a foot issue. Williams will be a candidate for return later this year.

Cowboys placed WR Terrance Williams (foot) on injured reserve.
It’s truly been a waste of a season for Williams, who’s battled foot and off-field issues throughout the year. He’ll be on the bubble in the offseason. This move hopefully instills rookie Michael Gallup into the offense as the third-rounder quietly played a season-high 40-of-69 snaps in week 4 against the Lions.

Terrance Williams (foot) has been ruled out for Week 5.
Williams didn’t practice all week with a foot injury. He’s also dealing with off-field issues. Brice Butler will see more snaps in place of Williams.
  • FA Wide Receiver
Terrance Williams won’t be active for Week 4 against the Lions.
Williams saw just nine snaps last week and wasn’t targeted. It appears he’s fallen out of the Cowboys’ rotation. Brice Butler should see an opportunity this week with Williams a healthy scratch. Unable to secure a role in arguably the league’s weakest receiving corps, T-Will could be on the outs in Dallas.

Terrance Williams wasn’t targeted Sunday in the Cowboys’ Week 3 loss to the Seahawks.
He was in on just nine-of-59 offensive snaps (15.3 percent). It would probably take an injury to one of the Cowboys starters for Williams to have any real fantasy relevance, and even then, that might be a stretch.

The Dallas Morning News reports Terrance Williams is facing a 2-4 game suspension for his offseason arrest.
Williams has made predictably zero impact through the Cowboys’ first two games. We suppose his blocking will be missed if he earns a ban.
  • FA Wide Receiver
Terrance Williams caught one pass for 12 yards in Week 2 against the Giants.
Williams caught his only target of the night. He was a non-factor in a game Dak Prescott threw for just 160 yards. The Cowboys have been one of the worst pass offenses in the league through two weeks.

Bryan Broaddus of DallasCowboys.com “honestly believes” Dwayne Harris has made the “biggest jump” as a receiver, along with Dez Bryant.
Broaddus believes third-round WR Terrance Williams will need a “great” training camp to beat Harris out for No. 3 duties. Harris has reportedly made great improvements with his route running and his overall catching ability. He’s also noted as the team’s best blocking receiver. Harris could flirt with inconsistent WR3 value in the Cowboys’ high-volume passing attack.

Cowboys WRs coach Derek Dooley says third-round WR Terrance Williams is “getting a little bit better,” but “he’s still got a long way to go.”
“He’s starting to make a lot of plays in practice, which is what we saw in the college film,” Dooley said. “It’s hard. These rookies are coming in, he’s hearing a language he’s never spoke. It’s like learning Japanese, right now.” As we’ve said, Williams isn’t a lock to beat out Dwayne Harris for No. 3 duties.
