Panthers selected Georgia WR Terry Godwin with the No. 237 overall pick in the 2019 NFL Draft.
Godwin (5'11/184) was a five-star recruit that made nine starts as a true freshman. He never lived up to the hype, getting outshined by Mecole Hardman and Riley Ridley his final two years. Godwin’s senior year was derailed by a leg injury, but he still managed to play in 13 games. He gives the Panthers a slot option to compete with Curtis Samuel.
  • NFL Media’s Lance Zierlein compared Georgia WR Terry Godwin to Corey “Philly” Brown.
Godwin (5'11/184) is described as a “tall, thin slot receiver with soft hands, good field awareness, and fluid routes” by Zierlein. Godwin struggled at the NFL Scouting Combine, producing a 28th percentile athletic SPARQ composite score. He showed well at the East-West Shrine game earlier this offseason with a 4/80/2 performance. Zierlein believes if he can improve upon his release he has a chance to become more than a backup. Godwin looks like a Day 3 selection at this point.
  • Georgia WR Terry Godwin caught four passes for 80 yards and two touchdowns for the East All-Stars in Saturday’s 21-17 loss to the West All-Stars in the East-West Shrine Game.
While Godwin’s squad did not come away with the win on Saturday, the 5-foot-10, 185-pound wideout very much looked the part of a prospect who has an NFL future ahead of him. Both of his touchdown grabs came in the third quarter to make a game of it after the West defense pitched a shutout in the first half. Looking beyond this game, The Draft Network’s Joe Marino earlier tagged Godwin as the most consistent receiver during the Shrine practice week, while The Athletic’s Dane Brugler loves him as a sleeper prospect. Our real question, now, is whether Godwin might be able to push toward a Day 2 selection. Stay tuned.
  • The Draft Network’s Joe Marino called Georgia WR Terry Godwin one of the five biggest winners at East-West Shrine practices.
Marino called Godwin “the most consistent receiver all week” and noted his lack of size (5'10/185) didn’t stop him from winning battles with corners. The Draft Network has been impressed with Godwin’s natural ability, which includes plus route running skills. One of Godwin’s biggest issues was a lack of production at Georgia. As a senior, Godwin only caught 23 passes for 385 yards and three touchdowns. That hasn’t stopped The Athletic’s Dane Brugler from calling Godwin “one of the biggest sleepers in the entire draft class.”
  • The Athletic’s Dane Brugler called Georgia senior WR Terry Godwin “one of the biggest sleepers in the entire draft class.”
That’s certainly high praise for Godwin (5'11/185) who was underutilized at Georgia. Brugler continues to say that Godwin’s speed could make him a difference-maker. Godwin received positive reviews at Monday’s East-West Shrine Game practice, especially in one-on-one drills due to his speed and confidence. As a senior, Godwin posted a 20-340-3 receiving line, so calling Godwin underutilized would be an understatement.
  • Georgia senior WR Terry Godwin accepted an invitation to play in the East-West Shrine Game.
Godwin (5'11/185) saw his numbers dip a bit in 2018, posting a receiving line of 20-340-3 after catching 38 passes for 639 yards and six touchdowns as a junior. However, it should be noted that he was dealing with a calf injury, which sidelined him for Georgia’s season opener against Austin Peay, during the early part of the season. The Draft Network made note of Godwin’s route-running ability when noting his positives, but the slight frame could be an issue in one-on-one battles.
  • Georgia senior WR Terry Godwin finished with three receptions for a game-high 84 yards and a touchdown in Saturday’s 27-10 win against Auburn.
The three grabs were actually a season best, and the yardage total was second only to the 95 yards he posted on Oct. 6 against Vanderbilt. He has visited the end zone three times over the past five outings, and he’ll look to add to that total next Saturday in non-conference action against Massachusetts in a tune-up game before facing rival Georgia Tech on Nov. 24.
  • Georgia senior WR Terry Godwin (calf) “appeared to be back at 100 percent” in the days leading up to Saturday’s game at Missouri.
Godwin didn’t play the second half of last week’s game against Middle Tennessee. He’s dressed and with the team for Saturday’s tilt with the Tigers.
  • Georgia senior WR Terry Godwin (calf) practiced on Monday.
Godwin has barely played for the Bulldogs, as he’s dealt with the calf injury the last two weeks. Being able to practice this early in the week is a great sign for the senior wideout, and means he has a great chance to play against Missouri this Saturday.
  • Georgia head coach Kirby Smart said the school’s spring game was the best performance from the team’s WR this offseason.
Returning receivers like Terry Godwin posted big numbers, as did freshman Jeremiah Hollomon. The Bulldogs offense will remain ground focused with Sony Michel and Nick Chubb. Jacob Eason could take the next step in 2017, but he will need help from an unproven receiver group.
