Yankees re-signed SS Wilkerman Garcia to a minor-league contract.
A highly-regarded shortstop prospect out of Venezuela in the Yankees’ minor-league system just a few years ago, Garcia didn’t play during the 2021 season and there wasn’t a minor-league system in 2020 either, so he hasn’t appeared in an actual game setting since 2019. The 23-year-old switch-hitting shortstop is regarded as a solid defender and a worthwhile low-risk lottery ticket for the Yankees at this point.
